Week of Women and Girls in Science

The Science Section of the German Embassy and the University Alliance Ruhr New York Office are organizing a roundtable discussion “Women at the Forefront fo Science Diplomacy”, honoring the UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science and in cooperation with the Women in Science Diplomacy Association on Feb. 13 at the German embassy in Washington DC.

The event will explore the critical role women play in science diplomacy, in fostering international collaboration, in supporting female leadership in STEM fields and in strengthening transatlantic partnerships.

It is a women-and by invite only event with the aim to discuss following four focus topics in interactive workshop setting:

The Role of Universities and Research Networks in Science Diplomacy:

How academic and research institutions serve as key actors in science diplomacy.

The importance of leveraging research to influence international policy and cooperation.

How can universities and research organisations continue to support women in science and diplomacy roles to ensure diverse leadership in these efforts?

What role do women leaders play in fostering successful science diplomacy initiatives within research and university organizations?

Supporting Women in Science Diplomacy:

Strategies for ensuring gender diversity and female leadership within science diplomacy networks.

Success stories from female-led university and research institution networks in supporting and continuing initiatives like WiSDA.

What role do women leaders play in fostering successful science diplomacy initiatives within research and university organizations?

What are some future opportunities for expanding collaboration among research networks?

How can we make the Women in Science Diplomacy Association (WISDA) sustainable?

Collaborating for Global Challenges:

How university and research organizations from different countries (Germany, France, Italy, etc.) are contributing to tackling global challenges through science diplomacy.

Examples of international collaborations that have driven innovation, especially those led by women in science diplomacy.

Can you share examples of how your network has contributed to science diplomacy efforts, especially in times of global crises?

Strengthening Transatlantic Science Diplomacy:

The role of European research networks in fostering dialogue and partnerships with North American institutions and how these collaborations are mutually beneficial.

Exploring the importance of continued support for transatlantic networks amidst geopolitical changes.

What are some future opportunities for expanding collaboration among research networks?

The outcomes of the workshop will be summarized in a paper as policy recommendation for the future of the Women in Science Diplomacy Association and similar female-led initiatives.
